Acidification of the Great Barrier Reef

Description:

A few years back I was fortunate to dive on the outer reef of the Great Barrier Reef. When I was taken by the dive charter we had to travel nearly an hour to get to the 'good' reef. Much of the inner reef has been depleted and destroyed by acidification. The agricultural run off from the farming industry in Queensland has decimated much of it. Here in this painting the ocean is fighting back slamming against the sugar cane fields. The colors in the bottom left of the painting represent the beautiful colors seen on the portions of the reef that are still thriving. But there isn't much. Also featured are skulls in the vegetation on the right.
